What Is It Like to Stay in a Drug Treatment Center?

If you or a loved one is considering going into a drug treatment center, you will want to know what it is like. After all, you are used to living your own life, with your own rules and plans. You can expect things to be different in a drug treatment center.

The first thing you will notice in most any drug treatment center is that there is not much privacy. In some ways it is like a college dorm. You will have individual private or semi-private rooms. Your living rooms will be shared. Unlike a college dorm, though, staff will often come into your bedroom.

This can happen if you or a roommate if experiencing problems you need help with, or it can be to check for illicit substances. This will usually be done with your cooperation. However, you will actually have little choice but to submit to the searches if you are to stay in the drug treatment center.

Another thing you will notice is that you will be given healthy foods to eat at a drug treatment center. If you have been living an addicted lifestyle, chances are you have not been taking care of yourself. The healthy foods may seem somewhat foreign to you at this point, but try to eat them anyway. They will help your body to recover from the damage you have done to it.

People at a drug treatment center often have problems with sleep. Even if you do not have sleep problems yourself, you are likely to be exposed to people who do. People who use drugs have no control over how their brains react to being without the substance.

There are often people up at night, moving around and talking. It is discouraged, but it cannot be totally stopped.

This is only one of the reasons why a drug treatment center will usually offer medical treatment. An addict’s health is almost always compromised. While you are in the drug treatment center, you may be taken for some tests. Some blood work may be done. You will almost certainly have your vital signs like blood pressure and pulse checked each day.

Living in a drug treatment center, you will get acquainted with those who are there at the same time. You will get to know them very well. You may make friends, but it may not be wise to stay in close contact with them after you leave the drug treatment center. If your friendship is based solely on your time in the drug treatment center, you will be too focused on your past.

On the other hand, there may be people who rub you the wrong way. Just as you are not at your best, neither is anyone else enrolled in the drug treatment center. Besides this, there are some people who you will never like. That is a time to learn how to deal with such people without resorting to drugs.

If you stay at a drug treatment center, you will be dealing with the ravages of your disease. Some of the living conditions will be related to this. Determine that you will stay the course, and you will have a chance to conquer your addiction.
